My name is Charles Thomas Newmyer, and I am a designer of architecture, print, graphics, thoughts and stories. To design something, to me, is to answer a question and make connections in an efficient, unique and creative way.
I believe in an iterative and collaborative process. I alone can't answer the design question at hand. I don't believe anyone can. Every designer has been influenced, taught, lectured, criticized and congratulated to get to the point we find ourselves in, and it's a perpetual and ever-growing process of learning, and if that doesn't excite you, then may God have mercy on your soul. Sure, I am more than happy and willing to tackle your design project, but if the only time we chat is at the very beginning and the very end to receive final payment, then I might consider that project a failure. The process of working together and learning from each other throughout the life of a project is the unseen and sometimes underappreciated behind-the-scenes magic that I long for. So, please, if we end up working together, let's actually and literally WORK TOGETHER.
Now a little bit about me. I've lived in Colorado my entire life, and I wouldn't have it any other way. This led to me attending the University of Colorado Boulder from 2010 until 2014, where I graduated with a degree in Environmental Design with an emphasis in Architecture. During my years living in Boulder, I worked for the university alongside some of my mentors, as well as outside of the university with some incredible architecture firms and architects between Boulder and Denver. This has all led me back home, to Durango, Colorado, where I grew up, where I now pursue a life of uncertainty, occasional empty stomachs and living in a van as a freelancer. It is a hell of a challenge, but to be in such a beautiful town with such beautiful and inspiring people with the freedom to travel makes every second worth it.
